ITT Celebrates 40 Years
As Cardno IT Transport (CITT) celebrates 40 years, we reflect on our humble beginnings, growth, and evolution. From rural access pioneers to global consultancy, we remain committed to innovation and sustainable solutions for our clients.
As we celebrate 40 years of Cardno IT Transport (CITT), we look back and see where we started, where we are now and where we see ourselves in the future.
Our Past
IT Transport Limited was established in November 1979 in the United Kingdom as a tiny consulting firm with just two directors, both experts in improving rural access and passionate about improving the prosperity of rural dwellers.
ITT didn’t just do consulting. We even had our own workshop in which prototypes of non-motorised transport vehicles were made and tested before their designs were exported overseas for implementation.
We continued to operate as an independent U.K.-based consultancy until 2014, when – in the face of an increasingly globalising world – we felt the time was right to join a company with a larger footprint and similar values: Cardno.
Over the last 40 years, we’ve grown and adapted to the way the world has also evolved around us. Although we have put the welding kit on the back-burner for now, we still pride ourselves on providing high-quality consultancy services to our clients in developing countries.
The Present
Our present is one in which we are busier than ever and where we are working beyond our original transport speciality. These days, we also work across other technical areas, including some of the most challenging the planet is facing. These include urban development and climate change.
In our core markets, we find that understanding sub-Saharan Africa and its dynamic urban development is key to ITT’s delivery impact. Sustainable urbanization has moved to the centre of the development agenda, and sub-Saharan Africa is the most rapidly urbanizing region in the world.
In the implementation of all its projects, ITT has also given strong consideration to cross-cutting issues such as gender mainstreaming, community empowerment, sustainability, equity and inclusion, and social accountability. In recent years, climate change has become an urgent issue that is at the forefront of all project design and implementation.
Our Future
IT Transport experts will continue to provide the excellent services we have become known for to its clients everywhere we operate. We will also continue developing and expanding our technical expertise across more areas, increase its global presence, and ultimately evolve into a broader technical practice that allows clients to come to us for any type of expertise they need.
We want to take advantage of the new research being published, innovative ideas and solutions being developed, and the cutting-edge technologies being made available, and use these to provide innovative and sustainable solutions that are tailored to our client’s needs.
Building new partnerships and relationships will also be an important part of our growth. But we want to continue to work with and honour those partners who have been with us from the start.
Thank you
Through our four decades, IT Transport has had the opportunity to work with consultants who are experts in their fields, clients who have provided support and guidance, and partner organizations with a passion for what they do. The combined efforts have yielded the best possible services to our clients.
We would like to thank you for trusting us to deliver our quality standards over the past 40 years, either as our client, consultants or partners. And we look forward to continuing to work and grow with you as we deliver innovative transportation and infrastructure services into the future.
