Planning and Supervision of the Construction of Infrastructure Measures in the Serengeti National Park – Second Phase of Implementation
Since May 2021, IT Transport Ltd (ITT) worked in partnership with CDM Smith to deliver Phase 1 of the Serengeti Ecosystem Development and Conservation Project (SEDCP I). This phase encompassed planning, design, procurement, and supervision of infrastructure construction within Serengeti National Park. Key achievements included rehabilitating the Serengeti Visitor Centre at Seronera, upgrading over 75km of rural roads outside the Park, and constructing over 70 facilities such as dispensaries, classrooms, staff housing, dormitories, an assembly hall, and charco dams in the adjacent Serengeti and Ngorongoro districts. ITT’s major contribution was offering the services of one of our directors, Dick Komakech, in the role of Chief Technical Adviser.

Following the successful completion of Phase 1, TANAPA awarded Phase 2 of the Serengeti Ecosystem Development and Conservation Project (SEDCP II) to CDM Smith in August 2024. ITT is proud to announce that Dick, will continue as Chief Technical Adviser for a further three years. SEDCP II involves planning, surveys, design management, procurement, and supervision of critical infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Kogatende Bridge over the Mara River, additional water facilities (rainwater harvesting and boreholes), Park Management Offices at Fort Ikoma, and Ranger accommodation. These efforts will be complemented by the implementation of financial management of disbursements, environmental and social safeguards, and capacity building for staff and stakeholders.
ITT is optimistic that the partnership with CDM Smith, the smooth coordination with TANAPA and the elevated financial support from KfW will significantly contribute to the unique conservation of biodiversity and sustainable management of natural resources in the Serengeti Ecosystem and the whole of Tanzania and beyond.
